Jim Kaighn was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1947. He relocated to North Carolina in 1967 and went into the Insurance Business in 1968 collecting on debt with Durham Life & Coastal Plains Insurance and later with Pilot Life until 1981 when he started his own agency. Jim graduated from college of the Albemarle in 1973, and in 1975 from Elizabeth City State University with a BSBA in Business Administration.

In 1988 Jim received his Brokers License in Real Estate.

The CHFC program provides financial planners and others in the financial services industry with in-depth knowledge of the skills needed to perform comprehensive financial planning for their clients. Since its inception in 1982, more than 40,000 men and women have met the educational, experience, and ethics mandates needed to earn the CHFC designation.

The CLU designation is the undisputed professional credential for persons involved in the protection, accumulation, preservation, and distribution of the economic values of human life. Since the first examinations were held in 1928, more than 93,000 men and women have met the educational, experience, and ethics mandates needed to earn the CLU designation.
