Jim Kaighn was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1947. He relocated to North Carolina in 1967 and went into the Insurance Business in 1968 collecting on debt with Durham Life & Coastal Plains Insurance and later with Pilot Life until 1981 when he started his own agency. Jim graduated from college of the Albemarle in 1973, and in 1975 from Elizabeth City State University with a BSBA in Business Administration.
In 1988 Jim received his Brokers License in Real Estate.
